1. Escondida - Chile :听The Escondida copper mine is situated in Chile's Atacama desert. This mine is jointly owned by BHP Billiton (57.5 %), Rio Tinto Corp. (30%), and Japan Escondida (12.5%). The Escondida mine alone accounts for 5% of total global copper mine production. In 2017 total production of mine was 1.27Kt.
2. Grasberg - Indonesia :The Grasberg mine is the largest gold mine and the second largest copper mine in the world, located in the highlands of Indonesia's Papua province. Mine is operated by PT Freeport Indonesia Co., the mine is a joint venture between Freeport McMoRan (90.64%) and the Indonesian government (9.36%).听In 2017 total estimated production was 750Kt.
3. Morenci - USA:听Situated in Arizona, Morenci mine is the largest copper mine in North America. Operated by Freeport McMoRan, the mine is jointly owned by the company (85%) and Sumitomo Affiliates (15%).听In 2017 total estimated production was 520Kt.
4. Buenavista - Mexico: The Buenavista mine is the world鈥檚 second-largest copper mine by reserve, located in the north-west of Mexico in Cananea. The mine is operated by Grupo M茅xico, the largest mining corporation in Mexico and the third largest copper producer in the world through ASARCO.听In 2017 total estimated production was 510Kt.
5. Cerro Verde II - Peru : Cerro Verde copper mine is located Peru, is the seventh-largest copper mine in the world. Mine is operated by 听Freeport-McMoRan holding a 53.56% interest. Other stakeholders include SMM Cerro Verde Netherlands, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Metal (21%), Compa帽ia de Minas Buenaventura (19.58%), and public shareholders (5.86%).In 2017 total estimated production was 500Kt.
6. Collahuasi - Chile: Collahuasi is Chile's second-largest copper mine. Currently owned by a consortium of Anglo American (44%), Glencore (44%), and Mitsui + Nippon (12%).听In 2017 total estimated production was 454Kt.听
7. Antamina - Peru :The Antamina copper-zinc mine is located in Lima. The mine Jointly owned by BHP Billiton (33.75%), Teck (22.5 %), Glencore (33.75%), and Mitsubishi Corp. (10%), it is being expected that copper output growth will be between 3% and 5% in 2018 compared to last year.听In 2017 total estimated production was 450Kt.听
8. Las Bambas - Peru:听The copper mine is听located in Apur铆mac, Peru. Mine has mineral reserves of 7.2 million metric tons of copper.Minerals and Metals Group (MMG) acquired Las Bambas copper project from Glencore Xstrata plc. for USD 5.85 billion. The Consortium comprised by MMG (62.5%), a wholly owned subsidiary of Guoxin International Investment Co. Ltd (22.5%) and CITIC Metal Co. Ltd (15.0%).In 2017 total estimated production was 450Kt.听
9. Norilsk-Talnakh - Russia:The nickel deposits of Norilsk-Talnakh are the largest-known nickel-copper-palladium deposits in the world. Mining operation is being carried out by Norilsk Nickel company, has headquarter in Moscow and is the world's leading producer of nickel and palladium. It is ranked among the top ten copper producers.In 2017 total estimated production was 450Kt.听
10. El Teniente - Chile: This is the world's largest underground copper mine, located in central Chile. The mine is operated by Codelco. El Teniente has suffered from years of declining ore grades, to improve the situation Codelco has secured the expansion right of mine from environment ministry. Under the revised plans, Codelco will gradually work its way deeper into the deposit.
