Myanmar is one of Southeast Asia's largest nations, with a population of more than 52 million people. With 135 different ethnic groups calling Myanmar home, it is also one of the world's most diverse countries, with a rich history and panoply of cultural and religious traditions. Myanmar is a geographically diverse country, boasting fertile tropical deltas in the south and a rugged landscape in the Himalayan foothills of the north. The country is situated along the Bay of Bengal, and shares borders with Bangladesh, China, India, the Lao PDR and Thailand.
Myanmar had estimated population of 52.254 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 54.36 million by 2022. Myanmar’s unemployment rate was 4% of total labor force, which is expected to remain same till 2022.
Myanmar’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was around MMK 60240.72 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP was MMK 83479.33 billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 138.659. Per capita GDP was estimated at USD 1269.27 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per capita GDP was estimated to be at USD 5831.82.

This resulted Myanmar government’s net lending / borrowing negative at MMK 3820.52 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were not made available by the government to boost economic growth.
