Water purifying treatments have seen steady growth over the past decade due to increased product selection and availability, a growing population, increased pollution of freshwater supplies, and substantial new home and building construction.

As such, the market for products that can purify the water we drink also grows. The three most common water purification treatment technologies are ion exchange, activated carbon filtration, and reverse osmosis. Water treatment is a broad categorization of numerous methods for making water safer. It applies to consumers, commercial enterprises, towns and cities, office buildings, farms, and many others. Water utilities filter and otherwise treat the water they obtain from wells, reservoirs, rivers, and other sources to ensure it is safe to drink. According to The World Water Organization, around 1 billion global population in 2012 did not have access to safe drinking water. With continuous improvements in lifestyle and increasing health concerns, safe drinking water has emerged as a necessity. A large section of the population in developed and developing economies consumes untreated water, thus giving rise to water-borne diseases. However, with increasing per capita income in these countries, consumption of treated water is rising considerably. The global water purifier market witnessed double-digit growth during 2013-2019. The Asia Pacific became the biggest market for water purifiers. With their large population and lack of hygienic infrastructure, China and India provide large untapped markets. This acts as a significant growth driver for the industry. Water purifiers are broadly categorized under two segments: online and offline. While online water purifiers require electricity for their functioning, offline systems work without it. Five general categories can be defined to better understand what constitutes water treatment. When the term water treatment is used, most people will think of municipal water treatment facilities for it is from these entities that most people around the world get most of the water they use on a daily basis. Offline systems that is non-electric are expected to increase industry penetration in the rural markets due to their lower costs. Industry participants are foraying into low-cost water treatment solutions and devices, including offline water purifiers targeted at low-income consumer groups. According to a recent report, water purifier and filter estimated at US$ 23590 million in the year 2022, is projected to reach a revised size of US$ 42700 million by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 10.4% during the forecast period 2022-2028.
