
Tin (II) iodide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula sni2. It is a monoclinic crystal with space group C2 / m. Tin (II) iodide can be obtained by the reaction of tin with hydroiodic acid or by double decomposition reaction. Tin (II) iodide is easily soluble in hydroiodic acid (aqueous solution) and difficult to dissolve in liquid hydrogen iodide. It can be reduced to tin by magnesium in ether. It can also be reduced to simple substance by hydrogen when heated. In organic solvent, it can react with some iodides to form triiodo tin (II) acid salt. Tin (IV) iodide, also known as tin tetraiodide, is an inorganic compound with chemical formula sni4. This tetrahedral molecule forms a bright orange crystal that is soluble in nonpolar solutions such as benzene. It is generally formed by the direct combination of iodine and tin and hydrolyzed in water. In hydroiodic acid, tin iodide will react with hydroiodic acid to form rare hexaiodostanic acid. It can be used in chemical manufacturing and medical equipment.
