An overheight vehicle detection system (OVDS) is a system that is used to detect vehicles that are too tall to safely pass under an overhead structure, such as a bridge or tunnel. OVDS systems typically use a combination of sensors, such as radar, lasers, and cameras, to detect the height of approaching vehicles. If a vehicle is detected to be too tall, the OVDS system will typically activate a warning signal, such as a flashing light or a siren, to alert the driver. In some cases, the OVDS system may also be able to stop the vehicle from passing under the overhead structure.
