Zimbabwe, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Mozambique to the east, South Africa to the south, and Botswana to the southwest. Zimbabwe, which the United Kingdom annexed as Southern Rhodesia from the British South Africa Company in 1923, obtained its independence in 1980. It is divided into eight provinces and two cities with provincial status. Zimbabwe's capital is Harare, and the official languages are English, Shona, and Ndebele.
Zimbabwe had estimated population of 14.501 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 16.908 million by 2022, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.59%.
Zimbabwe’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was expected to be around ZWD 12.397 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP was expected to be at ZWD 14.174 billions. This resulted Zimbabwe government’s net lending / borrowing negative at ZWD 1.452 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were not made available by the government to boost economic growth.
The current account balance for Zimbabwe was estimated to be negative at USD 0.234 billions for the year 2016 and is expected to decline at a CAGR of 42.27% and reach USD 0.025 by 2022. This negative current account balance indicates the Zimbabwe is a net borrower from the whole world.
