
Mining, metals, minerals, agriculture, wine, travel and tourism are major industries of Kosovo. In 2017, Agriculture industry contributed 11.9% to GDP of Kosovo. Manufacturing had a share of 17.7% while services industry had a share of 70.4% of GDP in 2017.

Kosovo, officially Republic of Kosovo, is a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic. It is situated in Southeast Europe, and shares its borders with Serbia to the north and east, North Macedonia to the southeast, Albania to the southwest, and Montenegro to the west. Since it is situated in the southeast part of Europe, it doesn't share any sea or ocean cover on any side, and it is completely landlocked geographically. Kosovo possesses vast plains of Metohija and Kosovo in center, Albanian Alps in southwest and Sar Mountains in southeast.
Kosovo is defined in an area of 4,203 square miles. Pristina is it’s capital. Kosovo’s real gross domestic product (GDP) was Euro 6.831 billion in 2019 and due to COVID-19 outbreak it is estimated to shrink by 5.00% to be around Euro 6.49 billion in 2020.
Kosovo’s unemployment rate was 25.7% of total labor force in 2019. Due to slowdown in global economic activity due to COVID-19 pandemic the unemployment is expected to increase by 2.10% and reach 26.25% in 2020.
Kosovo’s per capita GDP is estimated at USD 4710.85 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per capita GDP is estimated to be at USD 12801.21 for the year 2020.
In 2019, Kosovo government’s revenue was estimated to be CHF 1.913 billion whereas the expenditure is estimated to be Euro 2.275 billion. This is expected to result in Kosovo government’s net lending / borrowing positive at Euro 32.01 billion in 2019 indicating that enough financial resources were made available by the government to boost economic growth.
The current account balance for Kosovo was estimated to be negative at USD 0.851 billion for the year 2019 and is expected to further increase at a CAGR of 1.1% and remain negative at USD 0.899 billion by 2024. This negative current account balance indicates that Kosovo is a net borrower from rest of the world.
In World Bank’s ease of doing business ranking Kosovo was ranked 57 out of 190 countries in 2019. Kosovo’s ease of doing business ranking has slipped from 44th position in 2018.
