
Reversed-phase chromatography resin is a type of resin used in liquid chromatography techniques, typically for the separation and purification of chemicals. Reversed-phase chromatography is a common mode in liquid chromatography technology used to separate polar compounds, especially water-soluble compounds. A characteristic feature of reversed-phase chromatography resins is that their polarity is opposite to that of the compounds being separated. This resin is usually made of polypolymers or gels with hydrophilic functional groups on its surface, such as hydroxyl (-OH), methyl (-CH3), etc. These functional groups make the resin surface hydrophilic, so they have good affinity with aqueous solutions. In reversed-phase chromatography, the sample solution is usually a non-polar organic solvent, such as methanol, acetonitrile, etc., while the stationary phase, the reversed-phase chromatography resin, is polar. When a sample solution passes through a column filled with reversed-phase chromatography resin, polar substances interact with the resin surface more quickly and remain in the column, while non-polar substances pass through the column more quickly. This interaction allows compounds to be separated based on differences in their polarity. Common reversed-phase chromatography resins include C18 (octadecyl silica gel), C8 (octadecyl silica gel), etc. They provide different separation capabilities and selectivity with different carbon chain lengths, making them suitable for the separation of different types of compounds. These resins are widely used in pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, environmental analysis and other fields.
